Supporting Local Women: Laura Alexander & Jenny Carrillo
We celebrate Women's History Month to remind ourselves of the accomplishments of women throughout the years to our culture and society. From science to politics, it's is a chance to reflect on the trailblazing women who lead the way for change.
As we continue to highlight local women in our community, we are excited to have had a great conversation with Laura Alexander and Jenny Carrillo!
Jenny and Laura were both Girl Scouts and mothers of Girl Scouts. They have also worked as consultants to Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona for many years, most notably for the capital campaign for the Angel's Charity Place for Girls.
Jenny and Laura have both worked in the nonprofit sector their entire working lives, as program staff, development staff, and leaders in various capacities for organizations like Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, the Women's Foundation for Southern Arizona, the Birth and Women's Health Center, Arizona's Children Association, and more. Both went into solo consulting about 15 or so years ago. In 2010, realizing they were often competing for work and conferring a lot with each other, they decided to form a partnership and found Alexander | Carrillo Consulting. To their delight, they found they were stronger and smarter together! Since then, they have worked with more than 250 nonprofits, trained thousands of fundraising professionals and volunteers, and raised millions of dollars to help the community.
Jenny and Laura are both proud mothers of teenage daughters who are definitely their finest accomplishments. Some highlights of their proudest accomplishments together are the campaign to build Southern Arizona AIDS Foundations' Center on Fourth for LGBTQ youth, Our Family Services' Reunion House for homeless teens, the new Live Theatre Workshop, and Pima Council on Aging's Center for Healthy Aging. Their goal for the next 3-5 years in Southern Arizona is to keep doing good - better!
Jenny: Surround yourself with strong, smart, independent women who will always be there for you and tell you the truth.
Laura: Make sure you can be a strong, financially independent woman!
