Spread Cheer This Holiday Season
At Girl Scouts, it is our mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. While the holidays can be merry and bright for some, there are also many mixed emotions that accompany the holiday season. Encourage your girls to spread cheer anyway they can! Here are a few ideas to get them started.
VERY MERRY LETTERS
Write letters, make cards, or send postcards to those that need a sprinkle of holiday cheer! Send one or send 10— kindness has no limits. Some ideas of places to send these notes to are:
Military members far from home
Healthcare workers and first responders battling COVID-19
Senior citizens in care facilities
Children who are in the hospital
A family member needing a pick-me-up
LOVE FOR OUR FURRY FRIENDS
Don't forget those furry friends who haven't found their furr-ever homes! The animals at Pima Animal Care Center, or your local shelter, are always looking for new or gently used donations. From supplies such as leashes, collars, toys, beds, and blankets to wet and dry food— anything helps! Consider having girls spread the word and collect donations using a front door drop-off method.
SHARE THE WARMTH
As we reflect on what we have to be thankful for these season, remind girls that something as simple as a blanket should not be taken for granted! Consider having girls make cozy blankets and donating them to local homeless shelters.
Kindness and positivity are needed in all corners of the world right now. The COVID-19 pandemic is scary, uncertain, and exhausting. Each of us is dealing with it all in our own way and girls can help by doing random acts of kindness in their everyday lives! Some ideas include painting rocks with uplifting quotes and leaving them around the neighborhood to be found, holding the door open for a stranger, or leaving a positive sticky note on a bathroom mirror. The possibilities are endless!
Big or small gestures of holiday cheer are so important this year! Share how you and your troop are making the world a better place by sharing photos and stories at email@example.com. Happy Holidays, Girl Scouts!
